Performing in Two Different Settings

By Broc Hite, Piano Instructor

Two of my piano students from Shepherd participated in the Sonatina Celebration held on November 10th at NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) in Bentonville. It’s hosted by the Northwest Arkansas Music Teachers Association (NAMTA) annually. Both of my Shepherd students did really well. In fact, the young man below achieved the highest rating, Superior Plus, which comes with a medal of achievement.

The photos here are from a warm-up recital held at First Methodist in Springdale the week previous. I try to get my students out to perform in the community as much as possible. It’s really good for them to learn how to deal with the nervousness of performing.

Tomorrow’s recital on Saturday, November 17th, by my piano studio is a community outreach event. It’s at Primrose Retirement, which offers independent and assisted living at their location on Dodson Road in Rogers. Though I play gigs at Primrose from time to time, tomorrow’s performance is strictly a volunteer event. After my students play for the residents, I’ll play to fill whatever time is left over. I hope it will be a memorable event for all. Look for some photos on our Facebook page!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
